We are sure you are all aware that there is currently a national Measles Outbreak in New Zealand. Measles is a highly contagious airborne infection. Patients with suspected measles may not have informed us ahead of their appointment so it is extremely important that we are prepared to ensure we have systems in place to prevent infection and control measures.

We ask that should you be contacting the Medical Centre because you suspect you may have measles or have been in contact with someone who has measles please let us know. We have put in place a quarantine area which can be accessed from the back of the building and our Triage Nurse will manage your situation.

We are currently identifying patients who fit the recommended criteria and who have not had any measles vaccinations with the aim that patients will be contacted to arrange an appointment to be vaccinated. It is not mandatory in New Zealand to have the measles vaccination but we would highly recommend that you treat your situation seriously.
